Business Partnering
Business partnering provides a single source of truth and translates data into actionable insights that drive value creation
In practice, business partnering can play the following roles (among others):
- Corporate Strategy Support: Supporting strategic direction and long-term planning and translating strategy into coherent financial and operational plans.
- Strategic Project Support: Supporting major initiatives such as M&A, joint ventures, and post-investment or post-mortem reviews.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Leading the annual budget or Annual Operating Plan (AOP), rolling forecasts, and outlooks aligned with business priorities.
- Data & Single Source of Truth: Ensuring consistent and reliable data, enhancing data models, and enabling self-service analytics where appropriate.
- Performance Management: Defining KPIs and producing tailored management reports to track performance versus targets; explaining variances; and highlighting risks and opportunities (e.g., profitability by customer, product revenue and margin trends, segment P&Ls, volume-mix-rate (VMR) analysis, and marketing or promotion effectiveness).
- Decision Support & Insight: Converting data into actionable insights through business cases, scenario analysis, and decision support for key management choices (e.g., capital investments, pricing, product rationalization, sales-channel optimization, and customer or vendor on-boarding/off-boarding decisions).
- Value Creation & Optimization: Challenging and supporting business units to drive improvement initiatives and convert risks and opportunities into tangible value (e.g., profitability improvement, growth acceleration, cost efficiency, and capital allocation discipline).
- Transformation & Change Enablement: Supporting business transformations, new operating models, system implementations, process re-engineering, and change initiatives.
- Governance, Risk & Controls: Promoting sound decision-making through transparency, compliance, and risk awareness, including maintaining a risk tracker with defined mitigation actions.
- Financial and Business Ambassador: Acting as a trusted partner and bridge between finance and the business by combining financial expertise with strong business acumen.
